No fewer than 15 people have been confirmed dead, while 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a lone truck crash at the Muslim Cemetery area along the Ogbomoso–Oko Olowo corridor of the Ilorin–Jebba Expressway in Kwara State.

The fatal accident occurred at about 2:32 a.m. on Monday and involved a DAF XF truck with registration number GWL 274 XC.

Confirming the incident, the Kwara Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kabir Kazeem, said the truck was conveying 48 male occupants when it crashed.

According to him, 15 persons lost their lives in the accident, 17 sustained injuries, while 16 others escaped unhurt.

Kazeem attributed the crash to driver fatigue, noting that the victims suffered fractures, dislocations and bruises.

He said the injured victims were evacuated to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in Moro Local Government Area of the state.

The FRSC commander added that search efforts were still ongoing to ascertain whether more victims remained trapped beneath the truck's load.

He disclosed that the rescue operation was jointly carried out by personnel of the RS8.15 Oloru Unit Command and the RS8.1 Kwara Command, Oko Olowo Outpost.

Kazeem said the command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns through town hall meetings and engagements with relevant stakeholders to promote safer road use.

He also urged motorists to avoid mixed loading, night journeys and driving while fatigued, stressing that adherence to safety measures remains critical to reducing road traffic crashes.
