The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has officially flagged off its senatorial campaign in Ogun West ahead of the 2027 general elections, unveiling its senatorial candidate, Abiola Itakpe, with party leaders and candidates promising to prioritise infrastructural development and effective representation.

The campaign flag-off, held in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Tuesday, attracted party leaders, candidates and supporters, who called on residents of the district to support the APM in the forthcoming elections.

The party’s governorship candidate, Prince Babajide Rotimi, urged voters across Ogun West Senatorial District to support the party’s candidates, saying their emergence would provide an opportunity to address the area’s developmental challenges.

Rotimi stressed the need for purposeful leadership that would deliver meaningful development and improve the living conditions of residents.

“I urge the people of Ogun West to support the APM and vote for our candidates in 2027. We are committed to bringing reasonable development to the area and improving the lives of our people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the APM chairman, Abayomi Sanyaolu, declared that President Bola Tinubu had little more to offer Nigeria, advocating a change in national leadership and urging Nigerians to consider Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the presidency in 2027.

Sanyaolu called for a new generation of leaders, arguing that the country needed a president who understood the challenges facing ordinary citizens and was committed to prioritising their welfare.

He expressed confidence in Makinde’s prospects, describing the Oyo State governor as an experienced politician whose public service record, in his assessment, had prepared him for leadership at the national level.

“In my opinion, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should complete his tenure and allow a new generation of leadership to emerge, with Governor Seyi Makinde given the opportunity to continue the work of national development,” he said.

Sanyaolu further expressed confidence that Makinde would emerge as Nigeria’s president in 2027, describing him as his preferred candidate for the nation’s top political office.

“I want to talk about the presidential candidate of our great party, Engineer Seyi Makinde, whom I believe will emerge as Nigeria’s president in 2027, whether people believe it or not.

“I am not condemning anybody. I am simply expressing my political opinion. We need a leader who can move around, interact with ordinary Nigerians and understand their day-to-day challenges rather than remain behind closed doors,” he said.

The APM chairman also urged voters in Ogun Central Senatorial District to carefully scrutinise candidates seeking their support in 2027. He appealed to women to support female candidates they considered capable of representing their interests and addressing their concerns.

In her address, the party’s Ogun West senatorial candidate, Itakpe, pledged to promote infrastructural development across the district if elected, promising to work towards ensuring that communities received greater attention from government.

“My priority will be to promote infrastructural development across Ogun West. I will work to ensure that the needs of our communities receive the attention they deserve and that our people benefit from meaningful development projects,” she said.

Similarly, one of the party’s House of Representatives candidates, Mrs Soname, promised effective and quality representation for her constituency if elected in the forthcoming election.

Soname said she was committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of her constituents, adding that their welfare and development would remain central to her legislative agenda.

“If I emerge victorious in the election, I will ensure proper representation for my constituents and work towards bringing total development to the constituency,” she said.

The candidates called on the electorate to support the APM in the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that the party’s candidates would provide an opportunity to address infrastructure deficits, strengthen representation and promote development across their respective constituencies.
