The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, has pledged to end banditry and other forms of insecurity in the state within two years if elected governor in 2027.

Marafa made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Gusau, where he said he would take the fight directly to the hideouts of bandits and give security the necessary attention.

The former senator and commissioner said his experience in government had given him adequate knowledge of the challenges confronting Zamfara State and how they could be addressed.

According to him, insecurity and banditry could be tackled within a short period if the authorities demonstrated sufficient seriousness and commitment.

“I will either end banditry in my first tenure in office or resign,” Marafa said, adding that if elected, he would give himself two years to restore security in the state.

“If I cannot bring an end to insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminalities in Zamfara State within the period of two years, I will voluntarily resign,” he stated.

Marafa, who previously served as a commissioner in Zamfara and represented the state in the National Assembly, said he was familiar with the problems affecting both the state and the country.

He urged Zamfara residents to support the NDC and its candidates in the 2027 general elections, promising that his administration would give attention to critical sectors affecting the people.

The governorship candidate particularly highlighted women, children and youths, saying his administration would seek to ensure that they benefited from government programmes and the dividends of democracy.

“As you are aware, women, children and youths constitute a higher percentage of the population of every nation,” he said, promising to do everything possible to ensure that they benefited from his administration if elected.
