A fire outbreak at a mechanic workshop in the Isheri-Idimu area of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, affected 21 vehicles in the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred at about 3:05 a.m. on Oladunni Street, beside Eternal Filling Station.

However, the swift intervention of emergency responders prevented the fire from spreading to the filling station and adjoining buildings.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Dolphin Response Team, stationed at Igando, was immediately activated following a distress call.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said responders discovered that the fire had engulfed a mechanical workshop where several exotic vehicles were parked close to the petrol station.

According to him, the coordinated intervention of LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force prevented the inferno from spreading, averting what could have resulted in a major disaster.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that the fire had been completely extinguished and damping-down operations concluded, while preliminary assessments indicated that 21 vehicles were affected.

He added that a section of a nearby building sustained minor damage.

He confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident.

The LASEMA chief reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, commending the emergency responders for their prompt and professional handling of the incident.

He also urged members of the public to observe safety precautions, particularly in mechanic workshops and other environments where inflammable materials are handled.

Residents were further advised to report emergencies promptly through the state’s toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112.
