Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed sympathy with world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, following his involvement in a tragic road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

In a condolence message issued on Monday, Amosun described the incident as saddening and most unfortunate, particularly as it resulted in the death of two members of Joshua’s team.

The former governor said the tragic loss serves as a reminder of the fragile and transient nature of life, while expressing gratitude that Joshua survived the incident.

“While we mourn this grievous loss, we give thanks to the Almighty God for sparing your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult moment,” Amosun said.

He prayed for Joshua’s quick and full recovery, while also seeking divine mercy for the deceased.

“I wish you a speedy and complete recovery, and I pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls. May the good Lord comfort their families and loved ones, and grant them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

Amosun further extended his condolences to the bereaved families as well as the global boxing community, noting that the incident has been deeply felt beyond Nigeria’s shores.

Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigerian boxing icon and former unified world heavyweight champion, has continued to receive messages of support and goodwill from political leaders, sports stakeholders, and fans following the accident.
