British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, is in a stable condition and undergoing comprehensive medical evaluation following a road traffic accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State disclosed this in an official statement posted on his verified Facebook page.

Joshua was among four occupants in a vehicle that collided with a stationary truck on the busy highway leading to the death of two of his aides.

According to the governor, Joshua and another passenger were promptly evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they were subjected to thorough clinical assessments.

He said medical professionals have since confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.

“A full medical team has been constituted and will continue to monitor them closely,” the statement said.

It was further confirmed that Joshua is conscious and has been in direct contact with his family.

While reassuring the public about Joshua’s condition, Governor Abiodun noted that the accident tragically claimed the lives of two other occupants of the vehicle.

He expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the loss as painful and irreparable, and prayed for strength and fortitude for them.

The Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, said it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that all affected persons receive the best possible medical care.

He further assured that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have also commenced.
