The Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, has announced new dress code and conduct regulations for worshippers attending Jumat prayers, barring men with plaited hair and those wearing earrings from entering the mosque for the weekly congregational prayer.

The directive was announced during the Jumat service on Friday, as part of efforts to promote discipline, decency and reverence within the mosque.

Under the new regulations, men who plait their hair or wear earrings will not be allowed into the mosque for Jumat prayers when the directive takes effect on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The announcement gives affected worshippers one week to familiarise themselves with the new rules and make the necessary adjustments ahead of their implementation.

In a related directive, Sheikh Ayanbadejo warned worshippers against using mobile phones during prayers, stressing the need to maintain concentration and avoid distractions during the sacred act of worship.

He declared that any worshipper caught operating a mobile phone while prayers are ongoing would have the device seized immediately.

The measures are aimed at enforcing discipline and maintaining an atmosphere of solemnity and respect during congregational worship.
