The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Adeyemi, 38, was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Umar on Wednesday on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was initially instituted by the Nigeria Police Force against Adeyemi and two other suspects identified as Femi and Anu, who are still at large.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had taken over the prosecution from the police and that the case file would be reviewed.

He nevertheless urged the court to proceed with the existing charge and arraignment.

The prosecution alleged that Adeyemi forged documents relating to staff account approvals and the purported commencement of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and PFIPC.

He was also accused in one of the counts of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported council, contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code.

Following his not-guilty plea, Oyedepo requested an accelerated hearing, citing the public attention surrounding the matter. He also asked the court to remand Adeyemi in custody pending trial.

Adeyemi's lawyer, Genesis Eyibo, however, informed the court that a bail application had already been filed and was ripe for hearing.

He further appealed for bail, arguing that his client had a communicable illness which could pose a risk to other inmates.

Justice Umar declined to hear the bail application immediately because of other matters before the court and ordered Adeyemi's remand at Kuje Correctional Centre.

The judge adjourned the case until October 12 and 13, 2026, for hearing of the bail application and commencement of trial.

The controversy surrounding the purported council intensified after the Presidency denied that the PFIPC was an established government agency.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission was subsequently directed to investigate the activities surrounding the organisation.

The ICPC later said Adeyemi's alleged appointment letter was fraudulent and did not originate from the Presidency.
