The Delta State Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in its fight against crime across the state, arresting 77 suspects and recovering 13 firearms, 591 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, and ₦4.1 million ransom within the month of October 2025.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Asaba, on Wednesday.
He said the achievements were the result of the command’s intensified operations and synergy with vigilante groups, community stakeholders, and intelligence units.
According to the CP, the Command recorded multiple successes in tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and arms dealing across various parts of the state.
According to the CP, police operatives in Obiaruku Division, in collaboration with vigilantes, rescued a kidnapped woman at Obinomba after a gun battle that left one suspect dead.
An AK-47 rifle, magazine, and 12 live rounds were recovered.
He said the police, acting on intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, arrested Jamila Abubakar and Ahmed Ibrahim, notorious for supplying arms to bandits.
115 AK-47 rounds, 220 SMG rounds, and 32 live cartridges were recovered from them.
He said several suspected cultists were apprehended in Aviara, Warri, Ibusa, and other communities, with the recovery of locally made guns, ammunition, and fetish items used in criminal operations.
Police also rescued five kidnap victims unharmed in various coordinated operations across the State.
CP Abaniwonda commended the officers for their resilience and professionalism and urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police.
“The Command remains steadfast in its mission to make Delta State unsafe for criminals. We will continue to work with communities to rid the state of crime and criminal elements,” the CP stated.
