INEC to Publish Updated 2027 Candidates’ List After Review
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will publish an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections following the completion of its review process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, disclosed this on Tuesday in Gombe while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of an interactive session with commission staff from the North-East zone.
Amupitan explained that the review was aimed at addressing complaints received by the commission, including spelling errors in candidates’ names and cases of double nominations.
According to him, the commission allowed the maximum 14-day period for the review before releasing the updated list to the public.
“As you know, usually, in any list published, there could be errors here and there, and there have been complaints of misspelling of names. We have also received complaints of double nominations.
“We decided to allow the maximum period of 14 days. Any moment from now, we will make the review public, and the list will be released,” he said.
The planned publication comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the commission working to ensure that candidates’ information is accurate ahead of the polls.
The updated list is expected to reflect corrections arising from the review, particularly in cases involving errors in candidates’ names and multiple nominations.
