INEC Unveils Final List of 18 Presidential Candidates for 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the January 2027 Presidential and National Assembly Elections, with 18 political parties featuring on the list.

The list, signed by the Secretary of the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, shows President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, seeking re-election with Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Also listed is former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, with former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.

Peter Gregory Obi is listed as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, with Musa Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. The Labour Party, LP, is fielding Sunday Chibuzo Okereke alongside Hajja Bintu Konto, while Sandy Ojang Onor is listed as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, with Umaru Babangida as his running mate.

Other presidential candidates on the final list include Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the African Alliance, AA; Aliyu Abbas-Bin of the Action Democratic Party, ADP; Kabiru Yusuf of the Allied Peoples Party, APP; Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, AAC; Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of the Action Peoples Movement, APM; and Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party, BP.

The list also includes Moses Olusoji Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance, DLA; Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party, NDP; Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement, NRM; Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP; Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party, SDP; Peter Ada Agada of the Young Progressives Party, YPP; and Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.

According to the Commission, none of the 18 presidential candidates or their running mates declared any form of disability.

The list, however, contains two female presidential candidates; Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of NDP and Nkem Esther Okereke of NRM, as well as four female vice-presidential candidates.

The candidates’ ages range from 35 to 80 years, while their educational qualifications span the First School Leaving Certificate, WAEC and NABTEB certifications to university degrees, with doctorate holders among both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

The publication of the final list formally sets out the presidential candidates and their running mates cleared by INEC for the January 2027 election.
