Joju Fadairo retires from active politics
Chief Joju Fadairo has announced his resignation from partisan politics, saying the decision was personal and made after deep reflection, with no external pressure or hidden motives.
Speaking at a press conference held on Wednesday at his residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Fadairo said he had contributed his quota to politics at both the state and national levels over several decades and believed it was time to step aside.
He declared that, with immediate effect, he would no longer be affiliated with or aligned to any political party, adding that he would henceforth remain nonpartisan and serve as a father figure to all, irrespective of political affiliation.
Fadairo expressed appreciation to his family, political associates, supporters, well-wishers and the media for their support throughout his political career.
He also said his retirement from active politics would allow him to devote more time to community development and his traditional responsibilities as the Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland.
The former politician wished his political associates success in their future endeavours, reiterating that he would no longer participate in partisan political activities.
Chief Fadairo, a former Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had recently been at the centre of political controversy following his public blessing for the party's governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
At the time of the development, Fadairo was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of the party's Apex Leaders in Ifo Local Government.
The APC in Ifo Local Government subsequently announced his suspension over alleged anti-party activities.
However, in his statement announcing his retirement, Fadairo made no reference to the controversy or his suspension, maintaining that his decision to quit partisan politics was entirely personal and not influenced by any external pressure or hidden agenda.
