Portuguese manager José Mourinho is on the verge of a sensational return to Real Madrid after agreeing to all conditions presented by the club, according to reports from AS.
The agreement is said to be complete in principle, with only the final signatures pending.
Mourinho is expected to sign a two-year contract that would keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2028.
Current interim manager Álvaro Arbeloa is reportedly set to leave at the end of the season after failing to convince club hierarchy following his appointment in January to replace Xabi Alonso.
Mourinho, now 63, previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 before departing for a second spell at Chelsea FC.
The possibility of the veteran coach’s return gathered pace in late March after renowned football agent Jorge Mendes reopened discussions with the Madrid hierarchy.
Though initially viewed as unlikely, the proposal quickly gained traction within the club amid growing concerns over the atmosphere in the dressing room and the strained relationship between sections of the squad and supporters.
Senior figures at Real Madrid are now believed to see Mourinho as the ideal figure to restore discipline, unity and winning mentality at the club.
