The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down distributors dealing in alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml in Lagos State, with products worth an estimated N300 million seized during the operation.

The enforcement exercise covered Ile-Epo Market, where some distributors and retailers were arrested. Raids were also conducted at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin and Oke-Arin Market on Lagos Island.

NAFDAC officials evacuated several cartons of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from the affected markets.

Investigations reportedly showed that some distributors and retailers were hoarding the prohibited products amid increased demand and rising prices.

The agency reiterated that the ban remains in force, warning distributors, retailers and other operators against the sale, distribution or hoarding of the prohibited alcoholic beverages.
