The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the party has uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the nomination portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued on Monday, the party leader said the NDC had filed an appeal against a recent court ruling, along with an application for a stay of execution, both of which have been served on the INEC Chairman and the commission.

The statement added that the party has been granted access to the INEC nomination portal, enabling it to upload the names of its candidates in line with the electoral timetable.

According to the party, the names of the National Leader and Peter Obi have already been uploaded, while that of the vice-presidential candidate will be submitted upon completion of the required documentation.

The process of uploading the names of other candidates is also ongoing.

The NDC maintained that it remains a duly registered political party, having participated in all electoral processes to date.

It said its primary elections were conducted under the observation and monitoring of INEC and that the emergence of candidates for various elective positions had been concluded.

The party noted that, under the INEC timetable, it has until July 11 to submit the names of its National Assembly candidates and until July 17 to upload those of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.

Urging members and supporters to remain calm, the National Leader expressed confidence that the party had sufficient time to complete the nomination process.

The statement acknowledged disagreements that emerged during the party's primaries but said reconciliation efforts were underway to unite aspirants and stakeholders nationwide.

The NDC also assured unsuccessful aspirants that they would be integrated into campaign structures, committees and other party activities, describing them as an integral part of the party's grassroots base.

Congratulating the party's candidates, members and supporters, the National Leader called for the protection of Nigeria's multi-party democracy.

The statement also commended INEC for what it described as professionalism in handling the party's registration and other electoral processes, while urging the electoral commission, the judiciary and security agencies to remain impartial in safeguarding the country's democratic institutions.

The party said it expects the courts to determine the pending appeal and related applications in accordance with the law.
