The legal team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has disowned a petition filed at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

According to a report by the PUNCH, one of the team’s leaders, Kunle Adegoke, said neither the APC nor its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, authorised the petition.

Adegoke said the legal team, comprising several Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other legal experts, advised Oyebamiji and the party against challenging the election result after reviewing the conduct of the poll.

According to him, although the team identified grounds that could have been used to challenge the election, it decided that pursuing litigation would not be in the best interest of the state.

He said the decision was taken to de-escalate political tension and allow peace to prevail in Osun State.

The lawyer further noted that Oyebamiji had voluntarily congratulated Adeleke after the election, arguing that it would be inconsistent for him to subsequently authorise the filing of an election petition.

Adegoke consequently described the petition as a bundle of papers filed by individuals “masquerading as APC lawyers,” insisting that it was not authorised by either the APC or its candidate.

However, notices displayed at the tribunal on Monday indicated that two petitions had been filed.

The first, numbered EPT/Os/Gov/01/2026, listed Oyebamiji and the APC as petitioners, while Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were named as respondents.

The second petition, EPT/Os/Gov/02/2026, listed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as petitioner, with INEC, the Accord Party and Adeleke as respondents.
