The newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, Mrs. Feyijimi Ibiyemi Saseyi, has assumed duty at the state headquarters of the Commission in Abeokuta.
She officially resumed on Monday and was received by the management team, led by the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Adelusi Victoria.
The brief welcome ceremony featured prayers for a successful tenure, followed by a short management meeting with key officials of the Commission.
Mrs. Saseyi was sworn in last Friday by the INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, along with other newly appointed RECs from across the country.
Her appointment is part of ongoing efforts to replace vacancies within the Commission by the electoral body to strengthen its operations ahead of future elections.
During the swearing in, Prof. Yakubu described their appointment as a “critical step toward strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.”
The ceremony took place today at the INEC Conference Room in Abuja and was attended by key officials, including National Commissioners, Hon. Secretary to the Commission, Directors, and family members of the appointees.
Prof. Yakubu emphasized the significance of their roles, describing the conduct of elections as not only a major responsibility but a “sacred duty.”
“Your appointment is a full-time and not part-time responsibility. You must provide leadership and exercise effective supervision,” the INEC Chairman stated.
He reminded the new RECs of the need to operate within the confines of the law, uphold their oaths, and engage constructively with stakeholders while maintaining transparency and professionalism.
