The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Bonny Pie Industry in Akinbo Township, Ewekoro Local Government Area, over allegations of environmental pollution linked to the discharge of wastewater into a river serving the community.

The enforcement action was carried out by the Agency's Enforcement Unit on the directive of the General Manager, Kehinde Bello, following a petition submitted by the Olu of Akinbo, Oba Rasheed Olamilekan.

According to the petition, the traditional ruler alleged that the company had been discharging untreated wastewater into a community river, thereby posing potential environmental and public health risks to residents.

OGEPA said its enforcement team promptly visited the facility after receiving the complaint to verify the allegations and assess the environmental situation on the ground.

Following a preliminary inspection, the Agency ordered the immediate sealing of the factory to prevent further environmental degradation pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.

Speaking on the development, Bello reaffirmed the Ogun State Government's commitment to environmental protection and strict enforcement of regulations guiding industrial operations across the state.

He assured residents of Akinbo community that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and transparently, adding that appropriate regulatory action would be taken based on the findings.

The OGEPA boss also warned industries operating in Ogun State to comply with environmental standards, stressing that the government would not tolerate activities capable of endangering public health or the environment.
