Ogun Police Arrest Two Suspects Linked to Edo Kidnapping, Murder Case
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly linked to a kidnapping and murder case in the Okada area of Edo State, following intelligence-led investigations by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were earlier apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and subsequently handed over to the police for investigation
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in Edo State.
Babaseyi disclosed that intelligence gathered by the Command indicated that the suspects were members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation.
He stated that operatives recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects during the course of the investigation.
The recovered items have been taken into custody as exhibits to aid further investigations.
The police spokesperson explained that since the alleged offences occurred outside Ogun State, the suspects and recovered exhibits would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and intelligence-gathering efforts of the operatives whose actions led to the identification of the suspects and recovery of critical exhibits.
Ojajuni reiterated the Command's resolve to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a safe haven or transit route for unlawful activities, assuring residents of continued intelligence-led policing, proactive security measures, and collaboration with other state commands to enhance public safety.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality.
