Outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, has defended the Board's strict anti-corruption policies, saying tough disciplinary measures and an unwavering commitment to transparency transformed the examination body into one of Nigeria's most accountable public institutions.

Speaking at the handover ceremony to his successor, Prof. Segun Aina, in Abuja on Friday, Oloyede said his administration refused to tolerate misconduct despite prioritising staff welfare.

According to him, more than 10 members of staff were prosecuted over allegations of misconduct during his tenure, stressing that discipline remained a non-negotiable principle of the Board.

Recalling the widely publicised case in which a staff member claimed a snake swallowed N36 million, Oloyede described the incident as one of the measures taken to reinforce accountability within the organisation.

He noted that even the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reacted at the time, underscoring the seriousness with which the matter was handled.

He said JAMB's commitment to discipline and transparency accounted for its consistent remittance of billions of naira in operational surpluses to the Federal Government.

Oloyede added that transparency extended beyond financial management to the admissions process through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which eliminated arbitrary admissions and enabled candidates to monitor admission decisions openly.

He said the system had consigned the era of "under-the-table" admissions to the past by ensuring that admission records are transparent and capable of exposing anyone who circumvents established procedures.

The former registrar maintained that openness, accountability and technology-driven reforms restored public confidence in JAMB and strengthened the integrity of Nigeria's tertiary admissions system.
