A 46-year-old businessman, Akinbolusere Kayode, has died by suicide in Ondo Town, Ondo State, leaving behind a video message in which he spoke about his personal struggles, business challenges and family.

Kayode died in his office near BOVAS Petrol Station in Igba Town at about 3pm on Thursday.

Police detectives attached to the Bolorunduro Division, who visited the scene, reportedly recovered two empty bottles suspected to have contained a poisonous substance.

The deceased had recorded a video before his death, reflecting on his humble beginnings, business difficulties and relationship with his wife, whom he praised for standing by him through challenging times.

In the video, he also stated that his decision to transfer his properties to his wife and three children was voluntary and not influenced by anyone.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide were recovered from a nearby bush during the investigation.

Abayomi disclosed that preliminary findings indicated that the deceased had recorded a video before his death, in which he expressed concerns about the difficulties he had experienced in life.

The recording has since circulated widely on social media.

He added that the remains had been evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital morgue for preservation and further examination.

The police spokesman said no visible injuries or signs of foul play were observed on the body during the initial examination.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the actual cause of death.

Ohagwu urged members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow investigators to carry out their duties.

He also encouraged individuals experiencing emotional distress, marital difficulties or other personal challenges to seek timely support and assistance rather than resorting to actions that could endanger their lives.
