The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta (MAPOLY), Architect 'Koye Jolaoso, is marking his first year in office with the release of a comprehensive performance statement outlining major reforms, staff-centred initiatives, and capital development projects.
Dr Jolaoso who was appointed by Ogun State Government on December 6, 2024, rolled out his achievements during a diascusdsion on MAPoly Radio on Wednesday.
According to him, his administration’s foremost priority over the past year was restoring institutional harmony, stabilising operations, and rebuilding trust among staff, students, and management.
The Rector noted that this foundation was key to the progress achieved across the Polytechnic.
A significant highlight of the first year was the consistent payment of salaries, statutory deductions, and remittances.
Apart from a brief delay in November 2025 due to an unexpected revenue shortfall, he said, salaries were paid as and when due, ensuring predictability and improved staff planning.
The Rector also revealed that his administration implemented the 25%/35% wage increase for staff in April 2025, while negotiations on arrears and the new national Minimum Wage, expected to take effect in January 2026, are ongoing.
He said all outstanding part-time claims, except for the most recent session, were also cleared.
The Rector emphasised that staff development remained central to his administration’s priorities.
To this end, Dr Jolaoso said over 40 staff members benefited from sponsored workshops, trainings, and conferences through Management and TETFund support.
According to him, 16 staff members were also approved and funded as TETFund research grant beneficiaries, reinforcing efforts to strengthen academic professionalism.
On promotions and career progression, Arc. Jolaoso disclosed that MAPOLY addressed multiple backlogs, including outstanding appointments from 2021 and 2022.
He revealed that processes for pending promotions and conversions covering 2022–2024 have been finalised and forwarded to the Governing Council.
Beyond welfare, he said, MAPOLY secured full accreditation for nine academic programmes and submitted fourteen additional programmes for expansion, demonstrating renewed academic growth.
According to him, the administration also restored a stable academic calendar for the first time in several years.
He said the Polytechnic cleared a longstanding backlog of certificates and introduced a more secure, standardized Notification of Results system scheduled to begin in the 2025/2026 academic session.
This modernization aims to eliminate delays and enhance institutional credibility.
Under his leadership, the Rector said, MAPOLY activated and rehabilitated the Computer-Based Examination Centre (CBE/CBT), successfully restoring 100 computer systems and expanding capacity to conduct GCE and NECO examinations concurrently, boosting revenue potential.
The institution also continued to benefit from ongoing TETFund capital projects, including the completion and renovation of key buildings, laboratory upgrades, workshop equipment procurement, and the renovation of the Sports Pavilion.
The Rector described these projects as essential to improving teaching and learning conditions.
Power supply on campus received significant upgrades, he said, following the donation of two transformers by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the provision of solar inverters for major academic and administrative units under the FG-NEEDS Assessment programme.
The Ogun State Bureau of Electrification also commenced network upgrades to improve campus-wide energy reliability.
One of the standout financial accomplishments highlighted in the statement was the full repayment of all inherited outstanding bank loans, which the Rector said has strengthened MAPOLY’s financial stability and improved operational efficiency.
Jolaoso expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government, the Governing Council, staff unions, alumni, security agencies, and development partners for their support throughout his first year in office.
He pledged to consolidate on the gains recorded and pursue further improvements in security, ICT infrastructure, academic excellence, and staff motivation.
