The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed allegations challenging the eligibility of its 2027 governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, describing claims that his name was omitted from the party’s official membership register as a baseless fabrication orchestrated by political detractors.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Arc. Kayode Adebayo, stated this while reacting to reports circulating from the Ogun Democratic Accountability Forum.

He maintained that Adebutu remains a fully registered, financially up-to-date and undisputed leader of the party in Ogun State.

According to him, all legal and statutory requirements under the Electoral Act concerning party registration and the submission of membership registers to the Independent National Electoral Commission were strictly fulfilled within the stipulated deadlines.

The PDP described the allegations of disqualification as a sponsored smear campaign allegedly orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress and its proxy groups to create panic among voters and divert attention from what it described as key political vulnerabilities ahead of the election.

The party alleged that the campaign was primarily aimed at covering up unresolved questions surrounding the indigeneship status of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

It argued that, after decades of representing Lagos State in the legislature, Adeola's shift of political base to Ogun State remained a critical issue which the APC was allegedly seeking to conceal.

The PDP further alleged that the propaganda was designed to divert attention from public scrutiny over what it described as the alleged diversion of federal constituency projects meant for other states into Ogun State.

The party claimed that the alleged diversion was being used to project administrative achievements and mislead residents of the state.

Rejecting the legal assertions attributed to ODAF concerning Supreme Court rulings and nomination fee payments, the PDP maintained that political eligibility is governed by the Constitution and the Electoral Act, rather than statements issued by what it described as politically aligned groups.

The party urged INEC to disregard what it described as pressure from political proxies and reassured its supporters across Ogun State that Adebutu's nomination process remains intact.

The PDP consequently maintained that Adebutu remains fully eligible to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
