Police arrest four suspects linked to Adelabu’s sister’s abduction
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspect in connection with the kidnap of the sister of former Minister of Power in Oyo State.
Following a coordinated intelligence-led operation, the police also killed two of the kidnappers during a gun battle.
The victim, Mrs. Adegoke Olaide Busayo, 42, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted on June 3, 2026, along Elewura Street, off Ring Road, Ibadan, while the mother was taking the children to school.
Addressing journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command and other tactical units.
According to him, the rescue operation followed an immediate directive by the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, to launch a comprehensive manhunt for the abductors.
Investigations initially led to the arrest of one Wale Abolalewa, popularly known as "Oloro," who was already on the police watchlist for related criminal activities.
His arrest reportedly provided investigators with vital leads into the activities of the kidnapping syndicate.
Further intelligence gathering and interrogation resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Dare Oyedele, alias "Solution," identified as a key operative within the criminal network.
Police investigations revealed that the gang had attempted to recruit an insider within the victims' household in May 2026 through a staff member identified as Segun.
The police said the plan was part of a broader surveillance operation during which the suspects monitored the family's daily movements, routines and the schools attended by the children.
Investigators also uncovered digital evidence showing that the gang had compiled photographs of the family's vehicles, school environment and lifestyle patterns as part of preparations for the abduction.
Acting on intelligence obtained during the investigation, security operatives traced the suspects' hideout to the Lado community in Ayegun, Ibadan.
DSP Olayinka disclosed that on Saturday, at about 7:30pm, operatives stormed the hideout in a tactical operation aimed at rescuing the victims.
During the operation, a gang member identified as "Kelechi," who reportedly travelled from Lagos State and served as a lookout, opened fire on the operatives.
The police responded, leading to a gun battle in which Kelechi and another yet-to-be-identified gang member were killed.
Following the operation, Mrs. Busayo and her twin sons were rescued unharmed and reunited with their family after being placed under protective custody.
The Command further disclosed that two additional suspects accused of facilitating and providing the hideout used by the kidnappers were arrested.
They were identified as Semiu Ishola, 39, and Adeyemi Ayobami, 35.
Items recovered from the suspects included three pump-action rifles, 14 live cartridges, the unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla used for the abduction, a battle axe, a hammer, face masks, substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms believed to have been used by the gang.
The police said investigations were ongoing and efforts had been intensified to track down other members of the syndicate who escaped during the operation, some of whom were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The Command appealed to hospitals, medical practitioners, traditional bone setters and members of the public to report anyone presenting with suspicious gunshot injuries or unusual medical conditions to the nearest police station.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Oyo State Police Command assured residents that it would continue to pursue criminal elements and ensure they are brought to justice.
