Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended two suspects over the unlawful possession of three human skulls in the Ijebu axis of the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the command said the incident occurred on Monday when a team of Mobile Police Officers from 71 PMF Awa Ijebu was carrying out a routine stop-and-search operation.
The statement said the incident happened along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Expressway, near the Refugees Camp Junction in Oru Ijebu.
During the exercise, Odutola said, officers intercepted a motorcyclist, who was later identified as Kadir Owolabi, whose luggage, upon inspection, was found to contain three human skulls.
Following preliminary investigations, police operatives arrested a second suspect, Jamiu Yisa, 53, at a location behind the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat.
The statement further hinted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case for discreet investigation.
“We assure members of the public of trust, confidentiality, and protection of their identities,” Odutola stated.
While emphasising the importance of the stop-and-search strategy in crime prevention, the command said the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
