Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate, Muhamodu Sanni, while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to a recent abduction in the state.

Sanni was apprehended at a Point-of-Sale terminal around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area following intelligence-led investigations into the abduction of three persons during an armed attack on Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday through the command’s official X handle.

According to her, the police expanded their investigation beyond the immediate scene of the attack to trace the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly sustaining the kidnapping operation.

She said the approach yielded results when intelligence gathered around the ransom transaction led operatives to Sanni, who was intercepted at a POS location while attempting to cash out the ransom.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily cooperated with investigators and made useful disclosures concerning his role in the ransom collection process,” the statement said.

The suspect also reportedly mentioned two other individuals identified as Aminu and Umar as members of the syndicate.

The police said the information provided by Sanni had strengthened their understanding of the criminal network and generated additional operational leads currently being pursued discreetly.

The command said the arrest formed part of its sustained offensive against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to disrupting criminal networks and denying them freedom of action, urged residents to continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to security agencies.
