Thousands of residents and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday thronged the streets across the three federal constituencies in Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party officially flagged off its campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Governorship Candidate of the Party in the State, Ladi Adebutu has howevee appealed to the people of the State to reject 'oppressive' government of the All Peoples Congress in the State. 

The campaign train, led by Adebutu, alongside his running mate, Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, and the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, moved through Ifo/Ewekoro, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South federal constituencies.

The campaign commenced at Agbado Station in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, where residents waved from the streets and balconies of adjoining buildings as the PDP team passed through the area.

The train later moved to Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Dele Olaleye, is seeking election.

At NTA Junction, Totoro, a large crowd gathered as to welcome the campaign team with solidarity songs and chants.

The campaign train subsequently moved to Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where Toyin Amuzu is the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives.

Thousands of supporters received the team and followed the convoy to Ake Pavilion, venue of the Ogun Central campaign flag-off rally.

Speaking at the rally, Adebutu urged residents of Ogun Central to support the PDP candidates, particularly Obasanjo, whom he described as a tested and trusted representative with an impressive record of service.

He called on voters to reject what he described as the non-performance of the All Progressives Congress-led government and support the PDP for what he termed a new beginning.

Adebutu also urged supporters to turn out in large numbers during the 2027 elections, protect their votes and resist intimidation.

He said the PDP had historically delivered some of Nigeria’s best periods of governance, citing the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an example.

“I want to remind you that the best times of Nigeria have largely emerged under the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), exemplified by what Baba Obasanjo did as a cornerstone for his successors.

“Happy days are coming again, very, very soon. In January, a new dawn will break for the betterment of our people.

“I therefore urge you all to make up your mind to reject this oppressive APC government with your vote. You must chart a better tomorrow for yourself and your children.

“You must all turn out in your large numbers to vote for the PDP in the coming 2027 elections. Be ready to stand by your votes, resist intimidation and use the power of the ballot to say enough is enough to misgovernance and maladministration.”

Obasanjo, in her remarks, said she was encouraged by the reception she received across the communities, noting that residents continued to recall projects and interventions from her time as their representative between 2007 and 2011.

The former president’s daughter pledged to build on her previous record and do more to ensure that residents benefited from democratic dividends if elected.

She urged Ogun residents to support the PDP’s return to power, promising to work towards making life more comfortable and rewarding for the people.
