The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Samuel Shekwolo, has threatened residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) to leave the council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shekwolo made the remarks in a video circulating on social media on Tuesday while addressing his supporters and constituents.

The council chairman said his position was influenced by what he described as the developmental interventions of President Bola Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in the area.

He argued that residents benefiting from the administration’s projects should not vote against the APC at the next election.

“I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it,” Shekwolo said.

“You know why? I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It’s either you are with us, or you are out.”

The comments have raised concerns over the use of political rhetoric by public officials and the implications for citizens’ freedom to support political parties of their choice as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shekwolo’s remarks come shortly after controversy surrounding Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, who was accused of threatening members of the Accord Party during an APC gathering in Ilesa ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Fadahunsi was subsequently invited by the Osun State Police Command for questioning after Governor Ademola Adeleke called for his arrest and investigation.

The senator later denied advocating violence, saying his comments had been misconstrued.

Shekwolo was elected Kuje Area Council chairman on the APC platform in the February 2026 FCT Area Council election, securing 17,269 votes, according to the declared results.
