The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has been listed as a member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

Aina, who assumed office as JAMB Registrar on July 31, 2026, is specifically designated as Secretary, Digital Operations Centre (Situation Room) in the 223-member campaign council.

The position places the head of Nigeria’s major university admissions examination body within the political structure established by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

A membership document titled “Full Membership List of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council” lists Aina as number 218, immediately after Khalil Halilu, who is designated Director of the Digital Operations Centre (Situation Room).

The development is notable because Aina is currently serving as the Registrar of JAMB, a federal institution responsible for administering the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and coordinating admissions into tertiary institutions.

President Tinubu appointed Aina in May 2026 to succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

At the time of his appointment, Aina was a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and was described by the Presidency as a systems expert with experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector institutional reform.

The Presidency had also highlighted his previous experience with JAMB, noting that he began his career with the board during his National Youth Service and subsequently worked on examination reform, digital systems and institutional optimisation.

His inclusion in the campaign council therefore raises questions about the intersection between his current public office and partisan political activity.

Particularly given the sensitive and nationwide responsibilities attached to the JAMB registrar’s position.

The APC’s campaign council, chaired by President Tinubu, has Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as Vice Chairmen I and II, respectively.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed Secretary.

The expanded council comprises 223 listed members and includes serving and former public officials, political leaders and professionals across several directorates, including finance, education, security and intelligence, data management, digital operations, grassroots mobilisation and welfare.
