The management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, has warned parents and guardians not to release their children and wards back on campus until the University is officially re-opened.

According to a statement by the registrar of the school, Dapo Oke, the University Senate is yet to make decisions on the reopening of the institution.

The University was shut down, two weeks ago, following a clash between a group of students and members of the host community, Imaweje, which claimed the life of a 300 level student.

The statement further explained that a committee which was put in place to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the clash would submit its report from the consideration of the Senate on Tuesday.

The statement read, “The University Management wishes to inform students, parents, guardians and the general public that the University Senate is yet to make decisions to reopen the University as against the rumour being peddled around that the University will be reopening tomorrow.

“Please recall that following the shutdown of the institution by the University Senate about 2 weeks ago, in the wake of the Imaweje/students' clash, a committee was set up to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the crisis and the circumstances that led to the death of a 300-level student of the University.

“Consequently, the University Senate would hold a meeting tomorrow, 13th June, 2023, to receive and consider the reports of the committee and thereafter take necessary decisions as regards the reopening of the University.

“The University wishes to put it on record that there would be an official announcement for the reopening of the institution. Members of the public are hereby enjoined to monitor the media for the official announcement.

“In the meantime, parents and guardians are advised not to allow their wards back on Campus until the University is officially re-opened.”
