The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, saying the move is in recognition of Tinubu's vision and role in conceiving the landmark infrastructure project.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday during a media briefing in Abuja, explaining that the renaming was approved following consultations with the leadership and management of the Federal Ministry of Works.

According to Umahi, the President conceived the idea of the coastal highway about 27 years ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State and has now brought the vision to reality.

"By the powers conferred on me as Minister of Works, in consultation with my Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, directors and staff of the ministry, we decided to name it after him because of his dream for it.

"He had that dream about 27 years back as governor of Lagos State. It is one thing to dream and another thing to have the grace of God to actualise that dream," Umahi said.

The minister described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as one of Nigeria's most ambitious infrastructure projects, saying it is designed to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and transform transportation along the country's southern corridor.

Umahi also disclosed that President Tinubu had approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, as well as the reconstruction of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as part of the administration's drive to modernise the nation's road infrastructure.
