The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has commissioned 12 new electric tricycles as part of efforts to promote sustainable transportation, improve campus mobility and create employment opportunities.

The zero-emission tricycles were commissioned by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, in partnership with House of Destiny Global Services Limited.

The commissioning was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olusegun Idowu; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Olawale Dairo; other senior university officials and the Abeokuta Area Manager of House of Destiny Global Services Limited, Mr Yomi Olajumoke.

Speaking at the event, Kehinde commended the company for the partnership, describing the initiative as a welcome development that would provide cleaner and more sustainable mobility while helping to address transportation challenges within and around the university.

The Vice-Chancellor said the deployment of electric tricycles was in line with the global drive towards environmentally responsible transportation, noting that the initiative would contribute to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable campus.

He urged the operators to prioritise safety, responsible driving and the convenience of students and other members of the university community.

Kehinde also expressed optimism that the partnership would be expanded to accommodate other electric vehicles for use within the university.

Beyond transportation, the scheme is expected to generate additional internally generated revenue for FUNAAB while creating direct employment and income-generation opportunities for operators and other beneficiaries.

The university said the electric tricycles produce no exhaust emissions and generate less noise than conventional fuel-powered vehicles, thereby supporting its environmental sustainability objectives.

The ceremony ended with a test ride of the newly commissioned tricycles by the Vice-Chancellor and other university officials.
