Gunmen have reportedly beheaded a 55-year-old man and killed three others in separate attacks on communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The latest incident occurred in Kinat on the night of September 12, 2026, where 29-year-old Katbam Titus was reportedly killed by armed assailants, according to the Mwaghavul Youth Movement.

The movement said the Kinat attack came only hours after the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, Nigerian Army, held a security engagement with Mwaghavul and Fulani leaders in Mangu, where he reportedly assured both communities that the Army would not allow further attacks.

The group said the latest incident was linked to three other attacks recorded in the area in preceding days. It alleged that Geoffrey Gumut, 55, was beheaded in Kikyau, Mangu Halle District, on September 11, adding that his head had yet to be recovered.

In Larkas, Panyam District, the movement said 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle was attacked and macheted and remained in medical care. It described the incident as particularly disturbing because security personnel were reportedly stationed in the community when the attack occurred.

The group further alleged that Pius Dachen, 50, and Zadok Irmiya, 25, were killed in Ntul, Mangu District, in another attack.

Describing the incidents as “four incidents, four communities, multiple victims,” the movement called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the attacks, identify those responsible and prosecute them in accordance with the law.

It also demanded an investigation into the reported presence of security personnel during the Larkas attack, saying any allegation of negligence, compromise or failure of duty should be objectively examined.

The movement urged the Federal and Plateau State governments to strengthen security around vulnerable communities and take steps to disrupt the activities of armed groups.

It also called on Fulani leaders who participated in the GOC’s security engagement to demonstrate their commitment to peace by helping to identify, condemn and discourage armed elements.

The Mwaghavul Youth Movement mourned those killed and expressed solidarity with their families and communities, while praying for the recovery of those wounded.

“The Mwaghavul Youth Movement remains committed to peace, but we will never confuse peace with silence,” the group said.

Efforts to obtain reactions from the Nigerian Army 3 Division and the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.
