The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday interrogated Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his alleged role in the emergence of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which has been declared a fake agency by the Federal Government.

Gbajabiamila's lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that the presidential aide honoured the commission's invitation and appeared at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where he was questioned as part of the ongoing investigation into the PFIPC controversy.

According to Ogunye, the Chief of Staff cooperated fully with investigators, gave his testimony, responded to questions and subsequently returned to his official duties.

"In full cooperation with the ICPC acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the 'PFIPC' fake agency, among others," Ogunye said in a statement.

The interrogation follows President Tinubu's directive on July 2, 2026, ordering the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC scandal after reports emerged about the activities of the controversial body.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had announced that the President instructed the anti-corruption agency to conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.

The PFIPC controversy has attracted widespread public attention following allegations surrounding the creation and operations of the purported investment promotion council.

The Federal Government has maintained that the body is not a recognised government agency, while the ICPC continues its investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding its emergence and identify all individuals connected with the matter.
