The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers and allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the interception in a post on X on Sunday, warning that drug traffickers were increasingly using ordinary household items to conceal illicit substances and evade detection.

Babafemi said the consignment appeared to contain ordinary phone chargers on the surface, but NDLEA operatives discovered that cocaine had been concealed inside the devices.

“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.

The NDLEA spokesperson said the seizure underscored the agency’s repeated warning to members of the public against accepting or helping to deliver parcels and luggage for other people without properly verifying their contents.

According to him, unsuspecting individuals could unknowingly become involved in drug trafficking by agreeing to transport packages on behalf of others.

“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” Babafemi said.

The agency said the interception demonstrated the lengths to which traffickers were prepared to go in concealing illicit drugs and transporting them across borders.

The NDLEA urged members of the public to exercise caution when asked to convey packages for others, stressing the need to verify the contents of any parcel or luggage before accepting responsibility for its delivery.
