Former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has picked up his nomination and expression of interest forms to contest for re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daniel, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, said his decision was driven by a commitment to continue providing effective and responsive representation for the people of Ogun East at the National Assembly.

The move, however, comes amid growing political tension within the APC in the district following the recent adoption of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the party’s consensus candidate for the Ogun East senatorial seat.

Abiodun’s purported endorsement was said to have taken place during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ijebu Ode, a development that has sparked mixed reactions among party members.

The sitting Senstor was barred from attending the meeting where the consensus arrangement was reached.

Despite the consensus claim, Daniel’s action in picking up the nomination forms signals a potential contest for the ticket, suggesting that the race for the senatorial seat may not be as settled as earlier projected.
