The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has announced the commencement of the claims and objections exercise for the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), as part of efforts to ensure a credible voters’ register ahead of future elections.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday in Akure and signed by Ogunseye Olayinka, the HOD, Voters Education and Publicity, the commission said the exercise will run from April 29 to May 5, 2026, across all 18 local government areas of the state.
INEC disclosed that the Preliminary Register of Voters would be displayed daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at its local government offices, providing an opportunity for newly registered voters, as well as those who applied for transfer or updated their biodata, to verify their details.
The exercise, according to the commission, will also enable members of the public to identify and raise objections to ineligible entries, including underage registrants, deceased persons, and non-citizens captured in the register.
The development follows the recent conclusion of the second phase of the CVR nationwide, which recorded over 3.7 million new registrations, with INEC shifting focus to verification and cleanup of the voters’ database.
INEC in Ondo State, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, assured of robust public engagement throughout the exercise to enhance participation and awareness.
The commission urged all eligible citizens and registered voters in the state to take advantage of the window to confirm the accuracy of their information and contribute to the integrity of the electoral process.
It emphasised that maintaining a clean and credible voters’ register remains fundamental to the conduct of free, fair, and transparent elections.
