Ogun State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Hunye, has insisted that the party’s primary election that produced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its 2027 governorship candidate, cannot stand because of lack of fairness and transparency.

Hunye, who recently reaffirmed his determination to remain in the 2027 governorship race, spoke on Wednesday when he met with the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Abeokuta.

He also vowed to continue his legal battle seeking the nullification of the APC primary.

The APC governorship primary, conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas in May, was declared in favour of Adeola, who was announced to have secured 304,055 votes out of 305,287 accredited voters.

Hunye, who was the only other aspirant, was allocated zero votes. He subsequently approached the court, alleging widespread irregularities and disenfranchisement of his supporters.

Hunye said his challenge was not merely about personal ambition, but what he described as a struggle for truth, fairness and the protection of Ogun State’s future.

He also raised questions about Adeola’s background and alleged connection to the state, arguing that transparency was essential when seeking the trust of the people.

“People will agree with you. But when you want to build something on lies, it will not stand,” Hunye said, stressing that his objection was not to anyone’s right to contest elections outside their place of origin.

The former commissioner vowed not to abandon the legal and political struggle despite the challenges ahead, saying he regarded it as a responsibility to the future generation of Ogun State.

“My prayer is that whatever happens, I pray I see the end of the whole struggle. But I want to give a warning: I will not relent,” he declared.

Responding, IPAC National Treasurer, Comrade Sunday Ogini, said the council had heard Hunye’s complaints and would subject them to critical consideration.

He said the matter would also be presented to the national leadership of IPAC for possible intervention, while urging Hunye to continue engaging with his party through dialogue.

“We have heard your complaints, and I assure you that all shall be looked into critically. You have deemed it fit to take the matter to IPAC,” Ogini said.
